In the first few years of production, there were a couple obviously different cornet models that bore the same engraving on the bell, which simply read Olds, or The Olds. Either model could be ordered with the optional hammered bell in which case the engraving just read Olds. Please look carefully at the photos below and return to the form page when you have correctly iden-tified your model. If you have any questions or need assistance, please email us with a picture if possible/applicable and we will do our best to help.

Olds "1929 Model" Cornet

This model is what many of us refer to as the "1929 Model". This was available in both plain and hammered bells, and would have OLDS engraved in a banner across the bell.

Note the position of the valve block is farther forward than the late model. The leadpipe turns down-ward immediately forward of the fingerhook and enters the third valve on the right side of the horn. All early model cornets with the exception of the Super model were available in both plain and hammered bell models, even Military models.

Olds "Second Model" Cornet

This was also available in both plain and hammered bells. The plain bell model would read OLDS, or The Olds, and the hammered bell would read OLDS, in a banner across the bell.

The valve block is farther back, and the leadpipe enters the valve block on the left side of the horn. These mod-els typically do not have/nor can ac-commodate a 3rd slide ring.

If your cornet looks like this but says "The Olds" on the bell, please select "The Olds" as the model. If it looks just like this but is engraved "OLDS", please select "Second Model Cornet" as the model. We will consolidate all the models once we have gathered enough data.
